SmileSonica presented its business plan to the VenturePrize judges, followed by a final one-minute pitch in front of a crowd composed of Alberta’s business community. SmileSonica was ranked one of the Top 3 companies in the VenturePrize Business Plan Competition, Fast-Growth category. This year over 100 companies competed in the VenturePrize.
As a successful finalist, SmileSonica had the opportunity to bring its business case in front of a large audience of business people. This wide public exposure and the new business contacts will further facilitate SmileSonica’s development.

SmileSonica successfully advanced to the final of the VenturePrize Business Plan Competition, Fast-Growth category. After presenting its business plan and a Q&A session in front of a judging panel of business experts, SmileSonica was selected to be one of three finalists of the VenturePrize.
On April 30, 2009, the finalists will appear in front of the judges at Edmonton’s Westin Hotel and present their plan, followed by a final one-minute pitch in front of a crowd composed of Alberta’s business community.

SmileSonica's performance in the development of its ultrasonic dental technology has been recognized at the Alberta Nanotech Showcase. The event took place in the luxurious conference center at the Westin Hotel, in Edmonton. The event's audience consisted of executives of technology-based Alberta corporations, academic researchers, and governmental and funding agency representatives.
During the twenty-minute presentation, Mr. Scurtescu introduced the audience to the company profile and his experience with governmental funding and advisory resources. As part of the Albertan high-tech community, our company benefits from the strong governmental support, both financially and in terms of infrastructure access.

SmileSonica announces the establishment of its headquarters in the National Institute for Nanotechnology (NINT) Innovation Centre, in Edmonton, Canada. Our office is located a few steps away from the University of Alberta's Engineering and Health Sciences Facilities, allowing our company to explore and benefit from the open access technology development infrastructure and diverse expertise based at the University.
The NINT Innovation Centre has 2700 m² (29,000 ft²) of laboratory and office space available for rent by technology start-ups and established companies that will benefit from being located close to the University of Alberta's facilities.

SmileSonica’s business proposal to develop a commercial ultrasonic device with applications in dental repair won the MSTRI Entrepreneurship Program grant. The screening process not only resulted in winning the $75,000 grant, but also offered us valuable feedback and validation of our business.
The goal of MSTRI (Micro-Systems Technology Research Initiative) is to foster development of the Canadian micro-systems industry through support of innovative projects.
